Chalk Board Cookies

I am totally loving the chalkboard style cakes all over pinterest at the moment, like this one from the Blue Door Bakery… isn’t it gorgeous?

I had a pile of undecorated cookies so thought I would create some chalk board style cookies.

You will need:

  • Black sugar paste
  • White petal dust
  • Water
  • A wide dry paintbrush
  • Palette
  • Thin painbrush
  • Rolling pin and non-stick board
  • Cookies of your choice.

I decided to use this cutter from Not just cakes by Annie  This was the ‘Large Fancy Plaque’.

Roll out your sugar paste and cut using the same cutter you used to make your cookies. Fix this to the top of your cookies using either water for royal icing.

With your dry brush, rub a little white petal dust over the the corners of your black sugar paste.

With your finger gently smudge this into the centre of your cookie.

In your palette, add a drop of water to some white petal dust to create a paint. Using your finest paintbrush, paint an outline around the outside of your cookie.

I found it easier to paint the straight edges first, then move onto the rounded ones.

Paint a design of your choice in the centre of your cookies – I decided to paint a heart!

  1. These are so cute! I love how versatile the plaque cutters are– I got a set a while ago and have been using them a lot, but never tried chalkboard cookies! I need to find some black food coloring and get started…
